The FONE DI$PLAY

Call Shops provide telephone services for the public, for a fee, on a per call basis. The fees vary depending on the destination dialled. With the creation of multi phone Call Shops also came the rise of single phone Call Shops. There was a need to provide the same security and accuracy as the larger call shops for these one or two phone shops. To fill this need Telcom Research developed the Fone Display, as single line dialer with an LCD display that would show the user the length of the call (Time) and cost of the call while it was being used.

The Fone Display was developed using the proven technology of the Telcom Research AXS and EAL dialers. All the routing capabilities and programmability of these dialers are in the Fone Display. The unit also contains a pricing table that allows the call shop owner to set the price that will be charged for each call, depending on the destination number dialled. As default, the dialer is always in a Restricted Mode so that no calls can be made from it. Before any call can be made using the telephone connected to the Fone Display it must be activated and changed to Ready mode. After each call has been completed the unit returns to Restricted Mode so that unauthorized calls cannot be made without the call shop owner's knowledge.

The Fone Display can be programmed to show only the Cost, only the Time or the Time and Cost of each call. Each completed call is recorded into the Call Log in the Fone Display. This feature gives the call shop owner the ability to go back and review the last 10 calls in case there is a billing dispute with a user. While in the Call Log function the dialer is disabled and no calls can be made using the telephone.

The Fone Display can be used as a Count up version, which shows the increasing time and cost of each call, or a Countdown version, in which the amount paid (Cost) is preset on the unit and it counts down to zero. Once the Cost reaches zero the call is automatically hung up. This feature makes it very easy to have the customer use Pre-paid calling cards.

Although the Fone Display was created as a single line unit it can be used in conjunction with the M-AXS 8 Line dialer in larger call shops. It operates the same as in the single line application but the control for each call is done with the Call Shop software through the M-AXS, using serial commands.

Programming of the Fone Display, as well as all our dialers, is done through our Zoo Keeper II programming software.
